Newborn's Development in the Fourth Week

A lot of developments can be observed in a newborn by the fourth week of her development. Read on to find more about the positive signs of development that can observed in a four weeks old newborn baby.

By the time you reach the fourth week of your baby’s arrival into this world, it will seem like you have been handling the baby forever. You have crossed the first three important and crucial weeks of your baby’s life and have now successfully settled into your own world. Besides having settled into a proper day to day routine, you will now find your baby slowly adjusting to the workings of this world. The baby has now made mommy her favourite person and will start rewarding you with the little smiles more frequently.

The Hiccups and the Sneezes

Besides all the cooing “ohhh” and “ahhh” sounds that your baby has recently started making, your baby is going to start sneezing and hiccupping frequently as well. This is the period during which babies get hiccups. Some babies may not even get it. But there is no need to worry.
The sneezes are frequent because her nose is very sensitive. As the babies grow, her body will get stronger and the sneezing and hiccupping will stop. So if your baby has been getting hiccups at least twice a day recently, no need to panic. The hiccup and sneeze face is common for every baby.

I Can Hear More

By the time your baby steps into her fourth week, her hearing develops quite a lot. If you drop something in one corner of the room while your baby is lying in her cot in the other side of the room, you will see your baby startle a bit and try to turn towards the source of the sounds. Any clap, clank or thud she hears, she will try to turn towards the source of the sound.

More Eye Contact

Your baby will also start making more eye contact with you. Every time you talk to them or move in front of them, the baby will look at you and try to decipher what you are saying. She will focus on you and the sound you are making. Though her eyesight is still not developed fully, she can see and focus much better during this period. If you move a soft toy or a mobile phone in front of them, you will see them trying to track the movement with her eyes.

I Can Move My Head

During the fourth week, your baby will try to move her head a lot more. She will try to lift her head when she hears sounds and will also try to keep her head held up for longer periods of time when you put her on her stomachs. She will also start learning the art of moving her head from side to side.

Thumb Sucking is My New Favourite

This is the time during which babies start exploring her hand and feet movements. Also she will discover that she can move her fingers and the first thing she will try is putting them into her mouth. Eventually, thumb sucking may become her favourite. Make sure that you break this habit. Also you will observe that she will move her hands and feet a lot more as compared to the earlier weeks.

So take care of your baby and guide her through the new things in life as she will complete her one month in this week. Provide right care to aid the further developments that are going to take place in her.
